A low unit price can be attractive because the saving is easy to see. The cash tied up in a large MOQ is less obvious. That same order also creates months of inventory, storage expense and exposure to changes in demand. A product that sells more slowly than forecast can absorb working capital that would otherwise fund marketing, replenishment or a second product. Testing MOQ against available cash and conservative monthly sales makes the supplier’s proposal easier to judge as a business commitment rather than a price negotiation alone.

Empty space inside a carton can increase freight cost across every unit in the order. Two supplier or freight quotes are only comparable when their scope is aligned. A factory quoting EXW has not included the same responsibilities as a factory quoting FOB. A forwarder’s low ocean rate may exclude origin handling, destination terminal charges, customs clearance or delivery.
